I got a laptop! And by that I mean mum owns it but I'll steal it

AMD Turion 1.6GHz, 512MB RAM, Geforce Go 6150 (I donno the MBs), 60gig HDD, built in 801.11 wifi, weighs about 2.4 kilos. It's better than mum's desktop (my old PC) by a small hop. Preeeetty much entry level as far as today's laptops go, though, but this one isn't for anything high-performance, it's really just for mum's school work. But while she's not doing school work, I claim it! Bwahahaha!

Ug, last night I spent 7 hours updating it, backing things up, downloading some stuff. Computer's are no fun until a day after you get it.

I got a new headset, the speakers on this are absolutley god damn awesome, havn't tested out the mic yet though. A small problem with it is there is no on-chord volume control >_< This would be less of an issue if I had my old keyboard, which had a volume control dial on it, but I spilt coffee all over that when my cat scared the crap out of me. Dead keyboard. Next on the list to buy: Logitech G15 keyboard.

I also got a new mouse, but that was out of stock so it arrives on Monday. It's a Logitech G5 laser mouse. I didn't know until yesterday, but laser mice and optical mice are different, I thought it was just naming crap. Anyway, this mouse looks pretty badass (aside from an ugly brown patch), it has left and right mouse buttons, a thumb button, and two (+ and -) adjuster buttons, they change the scroll speed of the mouse, will be interesting to test this out with zooming. It doesn't have a scroll wheel, but rather a tilt wheel, acts the same way as a scroll wheel, but it tilts left and right to act as two buttons.

Funny WoW vid on video game addiction, presented to us by A Current Affair (ACA), an Australian current affairs program that's got a reputation for getting it's targets to read scripts and being heavily biased to whatever will make a good story and get viewers. This story was on ACA yesterday.

Also, please not that the kid, Dracoda of the Draenor server, is not Australian, he's a New Zealand immigrant. Lots of New Zealanders (Kiwis [kee-wees]) migrate to Australia because we have better unemployment and tax here than in NZ, so many (but _deffinatley_ not all) Kiwis come here to 'dole bludge'. This would explain why the kid in the vid doesn't have a door...

Today, this fourth of September, tragedy has befallen Australia. Our beloved icon, Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter, died today at 11am. He was filming an underwater documentary when a stingray fatally barbed him in the chest, he died instantly.

He was a great conservationist and a bit of a nut job. He died doing what he loved and will be missed by millions.

Rest in pease, Steve Irwin.

Well now, I havn't updated this blog for a while, at least not with any real substance. Don't expect much today, either.

I GOT A KITTEN [link] !
His name is Piccolo and he's so cute and... *GLOMPS PICCOLO*. Originally when we were thinking of a name for him, I wanted 'Icarus', but it was phonetically too similar to my name, 'Nicholas', so we had to pick another. I don't know how, but we settled on Piccolo, as in the musical instrument, not Dragonball's Piccolo...

He's well house trained, only two accidents ever while he was still scared of the new surroundings, but he's over that. He's energetic as hell, always while we're trying to sleep, and he's cheeky too! He gets on the living room table, which he's not allowed on, jumps off when we go to take him off and then he meows at us...

He's been immunised for both cat flus and cat-AIDs, and got a microchip on the same day, then he got some Advantage One (kills fleas and ring/heartworm) stuff on him right on the fresh scars (It smells like it has an alcohol base... ouch), but he's better off now for that day of pain.

I TURNED 21!
On the 1st of May, I turned 21. Piccolo was an early birthday present for me ! Also, *binka4wing sent me an awesome poster of a cat-lady for my birthday, I love it so much! Wow.. I'm 21 and I don't have a job... /shame

Thanks to everybody who sent me birthday SMSs, they were a really good surprise! And I don't have the phone credit to SMS back... sorry.

Let's see... I got PICCOLO, the awesome poster, $100, a newspaper from the day I was born, Series 1 of Red Dwarf, the Narnia DvD and....

I'M GETTING A RAM UPGRADE!
Mum's gonna buy me a whole bunch of RAM for my birthday, 2gig worth! Right now I have 512MB of RAM, so this is gonna be a HUGE leap in performance... WHEEE!

I'm using [link] as a pseudo benchmark to determine how much the RAM helps... read about it in there.

If you know a good (and free) benchmarking tool, please PLEASE tell me about it ASAP.

To log in or out, WoW can take up to a minute and a half (That's in OR out, not both), if I'm in Ironforge (my banking alt) then it can take up to 3 minutes. And once I'm in it's powerful-laggy for at least another minute... Next week that will change!
